Appraisal purpose

Underbook Appraisals provides vehicle appraisal services intended for British Columbia private vehicle transfer and PST-related purposes. Our service is designed to help determine whether a vehicle appraisal may support a lower value than the amount being used to calculate PST.

No guarantee of savings

Preliminary estimates, savings ranges, and review comments are not guarantees. Any final tax outcome depends on the completed appraisal, the information provided, applicable rules, and the transfer process. Underbook Appraisals does not guarantee that an appraisal will be accepted or that PST will be reduced.

No upfront payment

Underbook Appraisals may review submitted vehicle information before requesting payment. If we believe an appraisal does not appear worthwhile, we may decline to proceed or notify you before requesting payment.

Customer information

You are responsible for providing accurate and complete information, including the VIN, purchase price, mileage, condition details, and photos. Incorrect or incomplete information may affect the review, appraisal result, or usefulness of the appraisal.

Photos and supporting details

Photos and condition information are used to review the vehicle and support the appraisal process. By submitting photos or documents, you confirm that you have the right to provide them and authorize Underbook Appraisals to use them for review and appraisal purposes.

Payment and delivery

If an appraisal appears worthwhile, a payment request may be sent. Appraisal documents are prepared and delivered after payment is received. Fees, timelines, and delivery methods may vary depending on the submission.

Refunds

Underbook provides a completed appraisal package based on the information, documents, and photos you submit and our review. Once the completed appraisal package has been delivered, the appraisal service has been performed. Fees are not normally refundable after delivery simply because you decide not to use the appraisal, because a third party requests more information, or because the final tax outcome is different than expected. If Underbook makes a material error, we may correct the package or review the issue.

If you believe a refund of the Underbook Appraisals service fee is appropriate — for example, a documented Underbook error — contact admin@underbook.ca and we will review your request. This is separate from any provincial PST refund claim you may submit to the B.C. government using your completed appraisal as supporting evidence — Underbook Appraisals does not process or guarantee that government claim, and a refund of our own service fee, if issued, is a different matter entirely.

How Underbook provides the service

Underbook Appraisals may use software, licensed data sources, automated systems, and AI-assisted tools to provide, support, and quality-control the service. The specific internal workflow may vary depending on the request. These tools do not change Underbook Appraisals' service standards, customer commitments, or responsibility for completed appraisals.

Correction and reconsideration

If you believe material information used in your appraisal was inaccurate, you may contact Underbook Appraisals to request a correction or ask that the outcome be reconsidered. Clerical corrections to a delivered package are made at no charge.

Requesting reconsideration does not guarantee a different result, and it is not an appeal process. A request that depends on facts that have since changed, or on information that was not provided at the time of the appraisal, may be treated as a new appraisal request.

Not legal or tax advice

Underbook Appraisals provides vehicle appraisal services. We do not provide legal, accounting, or tax advice. Customers should confirm transfer requirements and tax treatment with the appropriate authority or professional advisor if needed.

Service availability

Underbook Appraisals may refuse, cancel, or decline a submission if the vehicle is not a suitable fit, the information appears incomplete or inaccurate, or the appraisal does not appear likely to provide a useful benefit.

Transactional text messages

Customers who provide a mobile number and expressly opt in may receive transactional text messages from Underbook Appraisals Ltd. relating to their appraisal request, limited to: a request for additional information if needed, and a notice when the appraisal is ready for payment. Message frequency varies. Standard message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out of text messages (this does not cancel your appraisal request or affect email updates) or HELP for assistance (or contact admin@underbook.ca). Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. SMS consent is optional and is not a condition of purchasing an appraisal.

Canadian Black Book data

Your appraisal fee includes the use of Canadian Black Book® data as an input in preparing the appraisal. Canadian Black Book wholesale values are proprietary licensed data and are not displayed or provided to customers.
